The article tells the story of something close to our rainbow-coloured hearts. You may have seen that earlier this year, a Pride flag was removed from the high street in Matlock at the request of a neighbouring business. For many in our community, it felt like a gut-punch. But instead of letting it dampen our sparkle, we decided to act! 💪
With the help of our amazing online community and local supporters, we launched Chalk Our Courtyard! A spontaneous event to bring the rainbow back. All weekend long, people came to Punnydukes to chalk rainbows and messages of love into the cobblestones outside our shop. The result? A magical patchwork of colour, kindness, and resistance. ❤️
For those who couldn’t be there in person, we created a Virtual Cobblestone Sponsorship page, with donations going to the brilliant charity AKT, who support LGBTQ+ youth facing homelessness and rejection. Together, we raised an incredible £1308! 🌟
From this little rainbow rebellion, something BIG has grown… 🌈 The first ever Matlock Pride will take place in 2026! 🌈
We are so proud to see this story celebrated in The Happy Newspaper. It’s a reminder that even when things feel a bit grey, love and community will always bring the colour back. 🌈✨
